The weather has been incredibly warm for March, and so my summer reading list has been delved into. I have taken it upon myself to read as many young adult novels as possible, as well as children's literature. I need to get into that realm before I Student Teach so I can have a nice bank of books to pull ideas from.
Today I finished Found, The Missing: Book 1 by Margaret Haddix.
There are five books in this series, so apparently I have about 4 days worth of reading to do. They are about a 5th grade level, but I bet some of my 4th graders with higher Lexile scores could handle and enjoy the series, too. The main gist of the book is a plane pulls into an airport, but it wasn't scheduled OR manned. The new attendant in the airport goes on the plane to find it full of... BABIES. No adults, no nothing. The book then skips ahead 13 years when two of the boys that were on the plane get letters that say, "You are one of the missing." I know too much to say what happens after that, but if you need a book to recommend to some youngin' or you need a book to read at the beach over spring break, this might be it.
I need to start keeping track of what books I read, who the main characters are, what happens, the twist, and how it ends. I read a lot of books over the summer in a short amount of time, and end up not recalling what the book was about. How does that help me in the future? It makes re-reading books entertaining, but it would also be nice to retain what I read. Maybe it will help for classes, too?
